(image from Wednesday's with Nic) | It was quite a big day for Scout today: we had a little bigger monthly celebration for him and it's his first day to move into solid food. We had a family lunch, and by that I mean just the three of us, at Lugang Café to have birthday noodles. |

One thing I've learned from other couples with children is to have some alone time with your significant others. Tonight is one of those times. I took A on a date to watch
At almost 4 months, Scout has been welcomed to the Christian world!
Now, let's move to the grub part...
Before becoming a parent, I've heard of stories about parents buying things for their young ones, but weren't able to use because the babies don't want to use it. Talk about "no means no." When people have started asking me what else Scout needs, I have an idea what they are, but haven't gotten around buying them yet...well, the big, expensive ones, at least. I didn't want to end up buying something fairly expensive that Scout wouldn't end up using. I didn't mind using hand-me downs as well.
I'm not sure if there is a tradition of giving gifts to the godparents for committing to becoming a second parent to your child, but there's always room for thanking them. We decided to do that by giving each of them a charm from Pandora. Initially, I thought of getting them a baby-related charm to mark the occasion, then I thought of giving them something that reminds me of them. (images from Pandora Philippines)
The other good thing about giving them Pandora charms is that the store offers a lifetime free cleaning service for all their branches worldwide! At least they wouldn't end up complaining of having to clean their respective charms. I hope their charms remind them of one of the most unforgettable moment in our lives.
I gave birth before our country was hit by the wrath of Supertyphoon Yolanda. I was in my 38th week and A was at work when I started having contractions. Although I did have my emergency contact list of people whom I could contact when I'm by myself and go into labor, I opted to go to the hospital by myself. Stubborn me, I guess, plus the hospital was just a few blocks away...but, I did take a cab going to the Emergency Room.
I spent the next 11 hours in labor, but just spent 15 minutes in the delivery room (normal delivery). Apparently, my OB cum drill sergeant had a bootcamp program for me in the delivery room...she had me do situps as I try to push Scout out. Believe me, it sounded so crazy when I heard her give me that instruction while I was having contractions. But between trying to make sense of what she wants me to do and being at the height of labor pains, I just wanted to get Scout out. So, there I was...inhale, hold, situp, push. Repeat a few times, and out the boy went. By the time A went into the delivery room, we were already done...to everyone's surprise. All's well that ends well...thanks to Dr. Angela Sison-Aguilar and the rest of the hospital crew. Yep, that's my post-delivery stash (if I can manage to behave and wait that long). A and I were walking around BGC and decided to check out Echostore. I like that store...brings out a sense of social responsibility in me.
I found some local chocolates there. Some like Theo + Philo and Malagos Chocolate, I've already tasted before. Both use chocolate beans from Davao, I didn't know Davao produces cocoa beans, but that was a very good surprise. I was able to try Malagos Chocolate in a food fair. Not allowed to have chocolate during the pregnancy, but I couldn't pass on the chance since it was my first time to see the brand. I tried their 65% Dark Chocolate, it was heavenly! Better than some imported brands with a higher cocoa percentage. I was also offered to try their hot chocolate, one of the best ones I've tasted...ever! I've never been so proud of a Philippine made product before...well, not as much as this one. I will definitely play around with recipes using Malagos Chocolate after I give birth (c'mon Scout, mommy wants to bake!). I'll be making separate entries for the other local chocolate items that we bought (and more about Malagos Chocolate escapades, of course) when I get to try them.
I could actually stay here the whole day, but unfortunately, I have to go to work to attend a meeting for a couple of hours. Cruel, cruel world...
Where do you guys go to chill out? I'm going to be working from home for the next few days before I officially go on maternity leave. Unlike being at work wherein I just select which food to eat, I ended up opening our fridge and pantry to see what I could come up with.
I found beef steak and bell peppers in the fridge. Some packs of fresh yakiudon from Han Yang Mart (Korean/Japanese grocery close to where we live), shredded nori and bonito flakes from New Hatchin, and shiitake mushrooms. I was missing onions and cabbage to complete the recipe, but I was also hungry enough to actually skip it and proceed with cooking. |
