Home Cooking: Beef Brisket Cooked In Beer

31/3/2012

Now that we've finally finished off our food donation stash from all over, I have resorted back to cooking at home (one happy A). I've been playing with thought of making our own corned beef since what we usually have in the market is the shredded one. As I was looking for a recipe for a pickling spice to make corned beef, I bumped into this Guinness Corned Beef With Cabbage recipe from Steamy Kitchen.

Fab-U-Less Finds: Reebok-Cirque Du Soleil Flextime Training Shoes

I finally found the shoes that matched my taste and budget! That was my second goal - the first one being going back to having an exercise regimen. The rubber shoes business has become more diverse and much more expensive over the years since my track days (long ago in a land far, far away). Add the fact that I'm a self-confessed Adidas girl, that limits my selection already.

A and I have returned to being movie buffs after quite some time. In the past couple of weeks, we've gone kiddie and went for The Lorax and The Muppets.

It's actually nice that the younger generations get introduced to the ones that we grew up with and be exposed to stories with moral lessons in them. As for us, it feels good to be a kid again for a couple of hours.

Nest Building: Throwpillow Case Hunting Is Finally Over

This is our favorite hangout area in our living room. It's our  huddle bed that we were able to purchase (without the 2 throwpillows) from someone in the jewelry industry. It's a sofabed covered with Indonesian ateja fabric. Sounds posh, but we were able to get it at a very good rate.

DIY: Silver And Crystal Candelabra Project

We got this candelabra as a wedding gift. Never got to display it until today for a much-awaited makeover. Not that I was being lazy about it, it's just it took a while to find the design and materials that I needed for it. It's like the Star Wars movie - George Lucas had to wait for the technology to develop before he was able to do the prequels to the legendary movie.

Dining Out: Heart-Shaped Mini Cakes From Park Avenue Desserts

I bought this voucher from Deal Grocer for 4 mini cakes from Park Avenue Desserts supposedly for special occasions in February: A's birthday, Heart's Day, and our wedding anniversary. The 4th mini cake is a "just because" cake haha As history tells it, there were some changes in the cake plans that I haven't gotten around in claiming these cakes until today.

Home Cooking: Tilapia Fillets in Tomato Sauce

Lent season means more fish dishes in our household. One of my weakpoint cuisines I think since I haven't really cooked a lot of fish dishes more for reasons that I don't get my fill when I eat fish. I end up eating more carbs. One thing that I like about cooking fish is that it's quick and simple (at least the ones that I'm familiar with).

Dining Out: Kristina's Inutak

One thing that is bound to get my attention easily is a food place that serves only one item and seems to attract many people. That's how it was while I was walking around Rockwell. I passed by this stall, where people are having a taste test. I then heard the person managing the store that they don't have anymore left to sell until after an hour when the new stocks come in. Hmm, definitely worth looking into.

ETCs: Snuz Goes On A Renal Diet

3/3/2012

Snuz, having been with me for more than 11 years now, is starting to have her old age problems just like the rest of us. The vet was surprised that she's that young and doesn't act her age (must be some doggie fountain of youth). Anyway, she was placed her on a renal diet and given a pill supplement.  This is quite a challenge as it involves teaching an old dog a new trick - eating dog food. To a kid, it was like trying to make them eat veggies (for those who are not veggie eaters without putting up a fight). So, this is going to be quite tricky for A and I to work around.
