DIY: Silver And Crystal Candelabra Project

We got this candelabra as a wedding gift. Never got to display it until today for a much-awaited makeover. Not that I was being lazy about it, it's just it took a while to find the design and materials that I needed for it. It's like the Star Wars movie - George Lucas had to wait for the technology to develop before he was able to do the prequels to the legendary movie.

So, what was I waiting for? Crystals! A specific cut, shape, and size sans the pocket-breaking price. I'm talking about these ones:

The big, round ones are the ones you'd see dangling on chandeliers. I found them at a discount over at  Mandaue Foam when they were disposing of a damaged wall chandelier for Php2,500 only. I did inspect the item. Am not really sure if the damage was due to a non-working chandelier or some of the crystals are already broken. I would assume that it's the latter as there were some areas that no longer have crystals on them. Nonetheless, I ended up with 40 round and 17 beveled, rectangular ones. That's still dirt cheap.

Now that I have the crystals, I went over to Carolina's Lace Shop to get some jewelry rings and fashion crystals (photos shown above).

I inserted a small crystal in the big ring:

Then used the small rings to link the big rings together forming a chain of crystals:

I also used the big rings around the candelabra's "arms" so that I could attach the crystal chain on it. This project would take quite a lot of patience to make since you're working with small items that require a pair of long nose to work on.

I also placed round crystals on the candle holders as I'm not a fan of taper candles.

After all that time and patience, time for the big unveiling of the much-awaited project:

Here's a couple of more views of the candelabra from another angle:

I was only able to use 9 round crystals. For special occasions, I'll replace the top crystals with a small flower arrangement like this:

I really enjoyed making this project. So looking forward for the next lighting project.

They are her mothers. Monetarily, they aren't worth a whole lot, but sentimentally, they are worth a fortune. The mother received them on her sixteenth birthday from her parents.
