Shop Finds: Panther Aircon-to-Fan Timer

14/5/2014

I just got this today at True Value Shangrila, as Ace Hardware was out of stock, for the Panasonic airconditioner that we just purchased. Since it's just a basic manual aircon, it doesn't have a timer built-in to it.

It was actually a good trip since I haven't been to Shangrila Mall for a while. So, I got to go around a bit before going home.

I'm guessing that it's been available in the market for a while, but only got to find out about it now while I was reading the newspapers today and just so happens that we have just purchased an aircon. It pays to read!

Well, let's see how this device helps with our future electric bill...

Shop Finds: Keeping the home clean and green for Scout

It was actually A who discovered this product. He's actually pickier than I am when it comes to whatever things we give to Scout (to which I thankfully appreciate). We were probably in Rockwell then since Messy Bessy has a physical stall there in the supermarket. Believe it or now, A is a big fan of Messy Bessy items. So, imagine how more secured he feels when the group has released their Messy Baby line.

AIS Mum: Scout's Sixth-month Cake

I usually go cake shopping for Scout's monthly celebration. One thing I like living here in our area is the number of food establishments around the place.

One of the places here that I like is Tokyo Bubble Tea. The branch here has Honeybee Patisserie & Cafe sharing the space with them. Recalling that they have a selection of cakes, I thought of getting one for Scout this month.

AIS Mum: Pandora love for Scout''s Godmothers

8/2/2014

I'm not sure if there is a tradition of giving gifts to the godparents for committing to becoming a second parent to your child, but there's always room for thanking them. We decided to do that by giving each of them a charm from Pandora.

Initially, I thought of getting them a baby-related charm to mark the occasion, then I thought of giving them something that reminds me of them.

Heart with Chinese "love"

Godmother No. 1 loves almost anything British, most especially, Benedict Cumberbatch. I seriously doubt that I could get her anything Cumberbatch before she can. She tried to look for the guy when she went to London. So, I figured giving her iconic British symbols would remind her of her trip.
Godmother No. 2 reminds me of a swan because of her graceful movements, except when she's really laughing over something. It amazes me how she can manage to shift to the opposite end of her spectrum and return to her usual elegant self.
Godmother No. 3 and I have been friends for more than 20 years. I have always known her as a very caring person. We decided to give her a heart charm with the Chinese character for "love" to remind her of her half-Chinese godson and our family's gratitude for supporting us all these years.
The other good thing about giving them Pandora charms is that the store offers a lifetime free cleaning service for all their branches worldwide! At least they wouldn't end up complaining of having to clean their respective charms. I hope their charms remind them of one of the most unforgettable moment in our lives.

Shop Finds: Gone Choco Local

Yep, that's my post-delivery stash (if I can manage to behave and wait that long). A and I were walking around BGC and decided to check out Echostore. I like that store...brings out a sense of social responsibility in me.

I found some local chocolates there. Some like Theo + Philo and Malagos Chocolate, I've already tasted before. Both use chocolate beans from Davao, I didn't know Davao produces cocoa beans, but that was a very good surprise.

I was able to try Malagos Chocolate in a food fair. Not allowed to have chocolate during the pregnancy, but I couldn't pass on the chance since it was my first time to see the brand. I tried their 65% Dark Chocolate, it was heavenly! Better than some imported brands with a higher cocoa percentage. I was also offered to try their hot chocolate, one of the best ones I've tasted...ever! I've never been so proud of a Philippine made product before...well, not as much as this one. I will definitely play around with recipes using Malagos Chocolate after I give birth (c'mon Scout, mommy wants to bake!).

I'll be making separate entries for the other local chocolate items that we bought (and more about Malagos Chocolate escapades, of course) when I get to try them.

Shop Finds: Breakfast Pastries

I love going to the patisserie at work. Variety is good, delicious, and very affordable as compared to other patisseries. I usually buy a pack every Friday to bring home to A, but I visit the patisserie everyday to see what they have for the day aside from the daily items.

Today's breakfast (which I'm sure we'll not be able to finish and will be consumed at a later time) consists of the following (clockwise): bottom layer - Scotch Egg, Sausage Roll, Chicken Puff, Corned Beef Puff, Cheese Puff; top layer - Chocolate Brownies with Walnuts, Chocolate Muffin, and Blueberry Muffin. The whole set just costs almost Php300! Quite generous on the serving size despite the price tag too.

The puffs were obviously smothered in butter which makes it
filling and mmm mmm good. Quite unhealthy too, but then again, bakers and butter go together =)

I finally got myself to go around redecorating the bedroom. For one thing, we were finally able to purchase a bed. Well, more of purchase a nice spring bed at 50% off thanks to Beeconomic and Mandaue Foam. Finally got to bring out the Abel Iloco blanket that I bought last year too (proud to be Ilokano, of course!).

Shop Finds: Organic Duck Eggs From Ang Tindahan Ng                     Itlog Ni Kuya

Looks good right? That's the puto that I bought from Ang Tindahan ng Itlog Ni Kuya. It's topped with cheese and salted organic duck egg and costs Php150/tray (about the size of 1 tray of eggs).

Ang Tindahan ng Itlog ni Kuya sells organic ducks and its byproducts. A Laguna-based industry that delivers to Manila for a minimum purchase order. To those who would like to order smaller quantities (usually for personal use), they can deliver every other Friday in Megamall.

I first had a taste for salted last year when a colleague of mine brought some. It has a different texture than that of salted chicken eggs. It's softer. I'm not sure if it has something to do with the preparation method, but so far, I've  tried  salted duck  egg twice from  different
sources. Both seem to be consistent in texture.

Since I was focusing more on the salted duck eggs when I placed my order on Ang Tindahan ng Itlog Ni Kuya, I thought I'd try their puto as well just for the heck of it. Boy was I in for a surprise! Their puto was light and has a different texture compared to its other varieties. It had an interesting taste, apart from the salted duck eggs, that makes it rather addicting to nibble on. Must remind myself to place another order in time for their next delivery in Megamall. Maybe I should include duck meat as well (recipe hunting mode).

If you'd like to try their products, you can contact them via +63.915.391.3129.

Nest Building: Throwpillow Case Hunting Is Finally Over

This is our favorite hangout area in our living room. It's our  huddle bed that we were able to purchase (without the 2 throwpillows) from someone in the jewelry industry. It's a sofabed covered with Indonesian ateja fabric. Sounds posh, but we were able to get it at a very good rate.
