Nest Building: Roman Shades

I've always admired roman shades with the elegant cascading effect of its slats as it rolls up and down. Of course, the mechanism doesn't come cheap. That's why I end up just admiring them. I would've tried to do a DIY thing with it if I didn't fail sewing during my Home Economics days in school. I was forced to wait for the apple to fall from the tree.

I was looking for an upholstery fabric over at 168 mall for our his and hers chairs when I stumbled upon a pair of roman blinds being sold for just Php800.

It has a good dimension of around 5' x 6' (width x height) with a light aluminum mechanism. Fabric is most glass curtain (am not sure if this is what you call a transparent curtain) with a solid floral fabric in the middle.

As you move down, there are tassels dangling at the end. Oh yeah, the curtain itself it attached to the mechanism with a velcro. So, washing it the curtain and having a replacement made should be easy.

It may not be as long as our window, but I'll just probably place it in the middle for balance.   I'd give it a try for the price. I just have to be extra careful in handling it.

The height of the shades actually reach the bottom of our window. And as expected, the width is shorter than what we require, but it's not really a problem since I like to look out the window with an unobstructed view. Plus, we just use the blinds in the morning since our unit is facing the morning sun.

I'd have to say that this is one of our great finds. And..yey I finally got to have a roman shade!!!
