Home Cooking: Steaks and Cake For Heart's Day

A's been asking me where I want to eat for Heart's Day. It would've been easy to come up with one, but I don't thinkit's going to be easy to beat the view we have at home. So, I opted for placing orders from a couple of my favorite suppliers.

I got a kilo of Australian ribeye from Cao's Steaks. Cao (Ocampo) is the one I run to for wet-aged steaks. Most people would just say that all a steak needs is salt and pepper. Then, there's such a thing as curing it for the flavors to seep into the meat. Beef aging can be dry or wet. I haven't been able to go around sourcing for a dry-aged beef supplier. Must include that in my mental rolodex.

Anyway, going back to Cao's Steaks, here are snapshots of the raw and cooked versions:

Since the ribeyes have been aged, I didn't need to add anything more to it pre-grilling. So, I didn't have to stress myself out in making dinner. Definitely worth the Php600 for 3 pieces!

And for dessert, we had this heart-shaped cake from Goodies N' Sweets. It's a delicious chocolate cake with boiled icing that's been torched to give that burnt effect on top. It wasn't exactly a diet-friendly dessert and it's 9 inches wide. So, we have to spread all that cake love for the next few days.

There you have it, our simple (and yet still very special) home-style, Heart's Day dinner. How did yours went?
