It's not the first time that we celebrated your birthday without you since you spent decades working overseas so that you could provide for us a good future. But it is the first time that we're sending you a birthday greeting to heaven.
I thought of buying you a cake, but I forgot to. I hope you memory gap is not hereditary. I did manage to cook pinakbet for dinner. What better way to show you my appreciation than by eating vegetables (You know, the type of food that you spent decades on making me eat and failed miserably to do so.)? We saved some for you at the altar. It's not a full-blown traditional Ilocano version that you're used too, but since I'm half-Ilocano, I would account the lack of authenticity to the missing percentage. Still, I hope you like it. Then again, you have always been proud of our achievements. Come to think of it, the kitchen was never your realm. So, our output would still be better than what you could come up with. Well, maybe except for that one time when I was little that you made this really delicious chicken macaroni salad and completely forgot the recipe after execution. Don't worry, I remember how you made it and still recall the recipe right up to this day. Your secret's safe with me.
I'm sure the rest of us made something special for you today. So, it's like having a number of parties in one day. Always remember that we love you very much!
Happy birthday Daddy!
