Dining Out: Filipino Dining At Elias

With so many restaurants opening here at the Fort, A and I have been going around trying them out (thus, explaining my frequent visit to the gym). One of the places that we've tried at the new wing of BHS is Elias. It's a theme restaurant that specializes in Philippine colonial cuisine. It belongs to the same group as Crisostomo Restaurant.

The decor is, of course, Filipiniana.

What makes is more interesting is the name of their dishes:

Their food is mostly salty,  though individually, the dishes have some good points. The sisig is crunchy and chunkier as compared to other restaurant versions, which I prefer. Just wished it had a bigger serving.

The tortang talong was a letdown. The addition of kesong puti may have added excitement to the traditional tortang talong, but the dish itself hardly had a taste to it. For that price, we were expecting something a lot more.

Bam-i Guisado was good. What can I say, if there's lechong kawali, it must be good! It can use some toning down on the salt though.

The Quezo de Bola Cheesecake was, uhm, interesting. The texture of what seems to be grated quezo de bola was not working for me.

Their halo-halo was OK. They used banana chips instead of sweetened banana. The crunch factor in a halo-halo kept me from fully enjoying it.

Their iced tea is worth going back to. There's this homey, refreshing feel to it which probably comes from the pandan iced tea base. It actually blends well if you're eating al fresco on a sunny day. It's the only thing on their that's worth the buck for me. Oh well, at least there's a reason for me to visit them again.
