AIS Mum: Of Mothercare and Mandaue Foam

Since Scout has outgrown his Moses basket, we've shifted him to a playpen. And, as expected, I went to Mothercare for help. I buy major Scout purchases in Mothercare because I have to accumulate a total receipt amount of Php 30,000 within a year after my purchase to be able to acquire their discount card. Plus, both our home and place of work have a Mothercare store in the area.

I was just looking for a basic one for Scout to use for the day when I'm at work since we co-sleep in the evenings. So, I ended up with the Serenity Classic Cot.

I find the bottom portion too stiff to lay a baby in, but that's comment for all the ones that I've seen. I recall seeing cot mattresses in Mothercare, which is also a reason why it made more sense to me to get the playpen there thinking that the mattress was designed to fit their travel...to which I was proven wrong. They were bigger and more like for a kid's bed. So, I asked if they have some sort of protector just to provide additional cushion to the bottom of the cot. They have this travel cot mattress topper as my only option.

Not so happy with the option, but I bought it anyway and took it to Mandaue Foam along Shaw Blvd. to have a custom-made foam made to fit it. I've had a number of custom furniture made by them and they've never disappointed me. Anyway, I went there and showed one of their staff the cot mattress and requested for a quote for a flex foam with the same size and with a 6-inch depth. The reason why I opted for their flex foam is that the custom daybed that we bought from this jeweller used the same foam. And I swear, to those who have used our daybed to supposedly just lounge in, ended up sleeping on it. Of course, I wanted Scout to be comfortable as well.

The cost for the foam was Php 2,300. My colleague suggested that I just buy one of the ready-made foams that they have and cut it to size. There was one that was on sale at Php1,000, but at that time, I didn't want to bother myself with the measuring, cutting, and having a cloth cover made to stuff it in. Plus, it wasn't the flex foam. So, that plus the convenience, I settled for paying more.

I was advised that it would take around two weeks to make, but was happily surprised when they called me up after just a few days to tell me that the mattress was ready.

And here is Scout literally sleeping like a baby.
